About EBOG FC
East Barnet Old Grammarians Football Club — 76 years of grassroots football, from Old Boys' League champions to thriving community club.
Our Story
East Barnet Old Grammarians FC was founded in 1948 by Mike Brazier and friends after leaving East Barnet Grammar School. Starting in Division 2 North of the Old Boys' League, we quickly established ourselves as a force in amateur football, winning promotion in our second season.
Based at our ground in Alan Drive, High Barnet since the 1960s, we've grown into a thriving community club with over 200 members. Today we run 5 Saturday teams in the Southern Amateur League, plus Veterans, Ladies, and Youth sections — welcoming players from across the Barnet area.

The Beginning (1948-1977)
Mike Brazier, our founder and long-time goalkeeper, set up the football club with friends after leaving East Barnet Grammar School. The team made their debut in Division 2 North of the Old Boys' League in autumn 1948.
Success came quickly. We won Division 2 North in our second season (1949/50), then climbed steadily through the league. By 1957/58, we won the Old Boys' League Premier Division Championship for the first time.
The club's growth was remarkable. By 1959/60, when we won our second Premier Division title, all four of our teams either won their league or finished runners-up. The 3rd team achieved an extraordinary unbeaten season in 1967/68, winning every single game in Division 2 North.
We won the Premier Division Championship for the third time in 1971/72. Remarkably, Mike Brazier — now in his forties — was recalled to the 1st team for this title-winning season, a testament to his enduring quality and commitment.
Southern Amateur League Era (1978-Present)
The club moved to the Southern Amateur League in 1977/78, and immediately made an impact. We won Division 3 in our first season, then followed up with Division 2 the next year — back-to-back promotions that took us from Division 3 to Division 1 in just two seasons.
Over 45 years in the SAL, we've won 7 division titles and established ourselves as a competitive force in North London amateur football. The 1st XI has spent most of its time in Division 1 and Division 2, while our lower teams have consistently achieved promotions and championships.
Most recently, our 4th XI won the Junior Division 4 championship in the 2023/24 season, continuing our proud tradition of success across all levels of the club.
From Old Boys to Community Club
EBOG was founded exclusively for alumni of East Barnet Grammar School. For three decades, you had to have attended the school to play for the club — a traditional “Old Boys” approach common in amateur football.
In the early 1980s, the club took a pivotal decision: we opened up membership to all. This transformative change allowed us to grow into a fully community-based amateur football club, welcoming players from across the Barnet area regardless of school background.
Today, while we proudly retain our name and connection to the school's heritage, EBOG is thoroughly inclusive. We welcome all ages (16+) and abilities, running teams from competitive senior football down to social veterans sides.
East Barnet Grammar School Heritage
Our club's identity derives from East Barnet Grammar School, which opened in 1937 (originally as East Barnet Modern School) and became a Grammar School in 1945. The school produced generations of students who contributed to the club's early success.
In 1971, as part of comprehensive education reforms, the school became East Barnet Senior High School, and later East Barnet School. In 2012, the school and EBOG jointly hosted a 75th Anniversary Reunion. Over 200 former students attended the Sunday gathering at our clubhouse in Alan Drive, celebrating the enduring connection between school and club.
Notable Alumni: Professor John Stollery CBE (President of the Royal Aeronautical Society), John Wrighton MB BS FRCS (two gold medals at 1958 European Championships, 1960 Olympics).
